Amazon vs Traditional

4/27/2012

Hi all!  It's been a few days since I posted.  I had to take a small break.  Life, as it so often does, got in the way.  Anyway, I read a great article today that I stumbled upon via twitter.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2012/apr/26/amazon-publishing-destroying  Take a look if you're at all interested in the market's trend towards eBooks.  The article itself was interesting and informative; a little one sided though.  However, the multitude of comments were just as entertaining and much more diverse.  All in all a good read.

I'm wholly in favor of the electronic book trend.  I have an app on my Android that lets me read all forms of eBooks and I just love them.  I'm personally thinking very hard and leaning towards publishing my next few books directly to Amazon, and B &N.  More so now after the lengthy battle with my publisher to reduce the inflated price tag they slapped on my last two books.

So what's your preference?  Do you love your eReader device?  Or, is your idea of sitting down with a good book more traditional?

Whipping boy

Hi all.
Got some nice news yesterday in the mail.  I just won another poetry contest.  This time for "Whipping Boy".  I didn't get any money though!!!  Just a certificate, but I'll take it.  For those that have never read my old collection of poems...  Here is Whipping Boy:

Whipping Boy

Picture
Bleed for me, my lamb.
Won’t you be my whipping boy?
I will discard you playfully.
You are just a broken toy.
And our souls shall never meet,
So you shall grovel at my feet,
And be my whipping boy.

I will not let you get the best of me.
So I’ll keep you in the dirt.
I’ll pile on you all my pain.
I’ll thrust upon you all my hurt.
I’ll give you my loneliness and sorrow.
You’ll never know the light of joy.
Know your place and cower,
And be my whipping boy.

So I spent a little time learning to make Ebook covers.  It was actually really easy once I got the hang of it.  Check out a few rough drafts...

A Break from...

4/19/2012

Taking a break today from talking about reading and writing.  Instead I want to talk about what helps me through all the tough times in life.  Chocolate is the obvious answer, I know!  Butterscotch muffins help too.

What really, really helps me though; when I"m down depressed and think that life just won't stop kicking me in the teeth.   It's that little guy over on my contacts page.  He's like a spoiled three year old most of the time but here's there for me when I need him.  He doesn't judge me, criticize my decisions, mock my beliefs, or talk about me behind my back.  He just loves me.  Well, me and beef jerky.

Pets are so great sometimes.  While their a huge responsibility, not as much as say a child, but a large commitment none-the-less. The payoff and rewards far outweigh the costs.  Who's your favorite little guy?

A promise is a promise

Ok, so I promised I'd give you more of my poetry collection.  A promise is a promise so here goes.

Yum-Yum Juice

Picture
Sing with me and play,
Watch the days just drift away.
Happy are my thoughts,
Downing multi-colored yummy draughts.

Nom-Nom; the crazy juice is great!
Heaps of pain and flesh--
Fill my broken plate.
What I cannot chew, I'll squeeze it through--
The mesh.

Strain you out like spaghetti,
Torn so small, confetti--
Mix it with my yummy juice.
Down my throat, a warm sluice.

Wait we can't play if you pass out.
Take the purple pill for me;
Then you'll see,
How fun the yum-yum  juice is - such glee.

They call it Chlorpromazine,
Makes me drool, but keeps my insides clean.
In my noggin nothings wrong now.
It kills the brain-grazing-amoeba-cow!

I had the schizophrenia, you see?
Disorganized and psychotic, that was me.
Three outta four voices thought killing was erotic.
Blood pooling little circles, so hypnotic

So, I was thinking...

I realized that a lot of people that might stumble upon this blog may not have even had a chance to read any of my work.  So, the next few posts will be from my new poetry collection.

They Treat Me Nice

Cut and slice,

Fresh and nice,

Whittling away the day.

My canvas you;  so true--

With your body,

I do play.

They told me something's broken.

The clockworks mangled;

Like a sweater unravelling quickly,

Who pulled the string that dangled?

They say like the hatter,

I'm mad!

It's not so bad.

The tea here is good at least.

They treat me nice;

Give me good drugs,

At long as I keep in check--

The beast.

He is slinky,

Oily, slick and squirmy too,

And so quick --

He runs you through.

Tooth and claw,

The razors bite.

Flesh is flayed,

Your blood so bright.

I tried so long,

To make it right,

But sanity fled,

Ran in fright.

I let it go hysterical--

giggles in my head.

So they put me in this padded room

To keep you all from being dead.

Sick all over again

Okay, I"m feeling a little better now.  I did have something else that turned my stomach a little, aside from the bad food I think I must have ate last night.  I don't want to go too far into the details or else I'd be making myself into the very thing that offended me.  So, I"ll just pose a question.  Is it commonplace for other writers to openly bash their fellow authors in a public forum?  How about their fellow authors publishing house?  I don't want to defame the sight or the authors that were there.  That would make me as bad if not worse then them. It made me sick though. I felt so sorry for the subject of the post. My opinion; it is so, so very wrong.

Oh so sick today.  I won't really be posting today, here, or anywhere unless I feel exponentially better.

Ok, so I'm trying to update daily, and be a diligent blogger!  It's hard sometimes... Got a few new likes on my Facebook and that is always encouraging.  I've been building my social network with other writers as well.

The best news I've had though was right here on Weebly, 270 unique hit yesterday!  Thanks all who stopped by.
